Turning a massive venue like D’Nest in Langford into something that feels warm rather than like an empty barn is no easy task. But this one strikes the balance – a space that works just as well for a casual mid-week feed as it does when the footy’s on and the bar is packed.
Inside, the fit-out goes heavy on industrial tones, with dark timber panelling, exposed black ceilings and charcoal brickwork. Against all those darker finishes, warm cognac seating brings some much-needed contrast and stops the space from feeling too cold or heavy.
Our Edison Chairs fill the main dining area, with their channel-stitched upholstery adding texture against the darker backdrop. Over in the electronic darts zone, Chesterfield Lounges create more of a classic pub-lounge feel, while long high-top dry bars and Fender bar stools help break up the scale of the main floor and create plenty of spots to settle in with a drink.
Outside, the beer garden takes a lighter approach. Terracotta and black Nes Chairs bring a hit of colour to the space, while their lightweight, weather-resistant design makes them an easy choice for a busy outdoor area that needs to stay flexible.
There’s nothing overly precious about D’Nes. It’s just a warm, good-looking pub that feels like a proper local.
