Formerly known as The Beaconsfield Hotel, The Wray Hotel has undergone a stunning transformation that breathes new life into this historic Fremantle landmark. Built in 1894 and boasting Victorian Georgian architecture, The Wray is more than just a pub – it’s a slice of Fremantle’s vibrant history, now reimagined with modern flair and comfort.
The client, having recently taken ownership of The Wray, was introduced to us through their brother – a fellow bar owner we’ve previously collaborated with. The venue’s interior had grown outdated and tired over time and was in dire need of a full renovation.
The goal was to enhance the charm of the heritage features while blending in modern elements for a fresh, welcoming feel. The client, with a sharp eye for detail, was highly conscious of the design – so much so that we often found ourselves in a back-and-forth dialogue over elements. Although these exchanges can sometimes be time-consuming, we recognise that achieving 100% satisfaction is essential. After all, the final space must reflect the client’s vision perfectly.
One of the key challenges of this project was managing the designer’s selection of furniture. Certain items, like the chairs, fell outside of our usual supply range. However, with careful persuasion and the help of 3D renderings, we were able to substitute the original designs with our custom furniture – a solution that both the client and designer were thrilled with.
A standout feature of this project is the Craftsman Bar Table, which boasts a custom walnut pre-laminated top. This piece became a centerpiece of the space, adding a rich, warm tone that perfectly complements the pub’s heritage aesthetic. We just love the look it brings to the room!
